Fake Ads and Games

Hey! This is a pretty old concept that most people know about by now, but it's still just as dangerous.

On websites and games that display advertisements, or ads for short, you might see these (pictures from RATH):

Yes, they are Animal Jam ads.

Notice how the Play Now and Sign Up buttons look odd. That brings us to the main conclusion. But before I get to that, there's this other ad I wanted to talk about-

This... blue wolf.

I actually was browsing through AJ blogs and came across the original drawing. If you want to see it for yourself, click here.

This is the original image.

I believe someone either stole the picture from the owner, or the owner itself is the one behind this clever scheme.

Anyway, back to the main conclusion.

AJHQ DID NOT WHATSOEVER create these ads. People stole AJ's unique art and put it into their own form. That is what we call plagiarism. You could spend time in jail for plagiarizing.

The big question is, why would anyone take the opportunity to make these fake ads? Well, the answer is simple: they want to HACK you.

Here's their procedure:

1. You click on an ad, thinking it's a shortcut right to AJ's homepage.
2. You enter in your username and password.
3. You log in.
4. The creator of the ad will see your account information and hack you.

How is this possible?

Notice the difference between the two URLs:

The first URL has a longer, more sophisticated link. The second URL has a shorter link.

The first URL is the FAKE Animal Jam homepage.

So, not only did these vicious hackers mimic ads, but they copied Animal Jam's homepage as well.

DON'T TAKE ANY RISKS!

  1. Actually, I think the longer URL is to ensure that the person who has the ads up will get paid
I'm not an expert so don't take my word for it
I noticed in the long URL it says the word "campaign" which probably means it is an advertising campaign

    1. While on the topic of ads I found a mistake in one of these AJ ads (still not sure if these are real or fake but here it is anyway)

I took this picture myself, notice how the fox is wearing a royal cape AND angel wings which you can't normally do in AJ

    2. (Yes I know I need to start putting all my comments into one big comment instead of writing out like 3 comments but whatever)
In the first picture you posted, those bunnies are from Tunnel Town and aren't even in AJ! And that bunny between the two toucans, is that an unreleased one?

  7. A few days ago, I was typing the AJ web address and I accedently added a period at the end of the address: www.animaljam.com. The homepage was exactly the same so I typed my username and pass. and a separate page popped up and it said "access denied".

  8. It's sad how lots of people scammed these days. One of my most trusted and best buddies attempted to scam me today (again).

  9. Isn't this called phishing? In more serious cases you could lose your personal info or even social security number from clicking a link in staid of going directly to the site. This sort of thing can ruin people's lives. Not cool.
